DIVER RESCUE

OBJECTIVES
The SAA Nitrox course provides an introduction to Nitrox diving including its advantages and dangers.
The successful candidate will be able to safely plan Nitrox dives, carry out the necessary calculations and correctly analyse gas mixtures. The course is theory-based and covers:
- An introduction to Nitrox.
- A history of Nitrox
- An overview of the Bühlmann Tables
- A knowledge of Oxygen toxicity
ENTRY CRITERIA
Current SAA Membership
Current Medical or self certificate.
Experienced SAA Club Diver (or equivalent) with at least 15 open water dives
Minimum age 18 years (Depth Restriction applies below this age in a dive leading role)
Authorisation of Club Diving Officer
QUALIFICATION AWARDED
Qualification book certificate
SYLLABUS:
- Introduction and registration
- Nitrox - an overview
- The history of Nitrox
- Basic Nitrox theory including Oxygen Toxicity
- NOAA tables
- Central Nervous System tracking and partial pressures
- Equivalent air depth theory and calculations
- Dive planning including B(jhlmann tables
- Nitrox equipment and analysis of gas mixtures theory and practical.
- Theory examination
- Results and debrief
